State of Water

FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present the exhibition "State of Water," a two-person show featuring photography by Lynne Buchanan and video and installation by Alegia Papageorgiou, two artists who share a concern for the current dire state of the environment. Originally hailing from Florida, Lynne Buchanan's beautiful photographs document the effects of climate change in Iceland, Patagonia, Bangladesh and Antarctica, as well as across the United States, juxtaposing details from opposite ends of the earth. Alegia Papageorgiou's installation, "the repairing earth project," presents small scale clay landscapes similar to the earth's surfaces, that change constantly as water is introduced, depicting man's relationship to the natural environment. Her video/installation, "La Poubelle" is a creature constructed from garbage, a wandering female figure in a setting of raging waves on inhospitable rocks.
Award winning photographer Lynne Buchanan has had several solo exhibitions in Florida and has participated in numerous group shows around the United States. George F. Thompson Publishing recently published her book Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril. Lynne holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Art History, as well as a Master's in English with a concentration in creative writing and a Master's of Business Administration. She understands the issues facing our waterways from multiple perspectives and communicates them through her photographs and writing. She has mentored and studied with many notable photographers including Sam Abell, Clyde Butcher, Dewitt Jones and Jill Enfield, among others.
Alegia Papageorgiou is a visual artist and scenographer based in Athens but also working in the Netherlands, the U.K., and other European countries. She earned a BA in Interior Design from Vakalo College of Arts & Design, Athens, University of Derby UK and an MA in Scenography from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. She is currently enrolled in a second Master's program at The Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Conservatory, The Hague. Alegia's work in scenography includes video, photography, lighting, video projection mapping, audio editing, electronics hacking, scenic art, sculpture and other forms of technical support. Among other projects, she was involved in the world premiere of Edward Bond's "Dea," The Secombre Theater, Sutton UK; the National Theater of Greece; Athens Biennale; Festival of Athens and Epidaurus, Comedie de Reims gallery, London, Sonic Acts festival, Amsterdam, and has participated in art exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

H FokiaNou Art Space παρουσιάζει την έκθεση State of Water δυο καλλιτεχνών που συμμερίζονται έναν έντονο προβληματισμό για την τρέχουσα κακή κατάσταση του περιβάλλοντος, της Lynne Buchanan μέσα από έργα φωτογραφίας και της Αλέγιας Παπαγεωργίου με μια εγκατάσταση και βίντεο.
Με αφετηρία την Φλόριντα, οι όμορφες φωτογραφίες της Lynne Buchanan μας ταξιδεύουν σε διάφορες γωνιές του πλανήτη και καταγράφουν τις επιπτώσεις της κλιματικής αλλαγής στην Ισλανδία, την Παταγονία, το Μπαγκλαντές και την Ανταρκτική, καθώς και στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, αντιπαραβάλλοντας λεπτομέρειες από τα αντίθετα άκρα της γης.
Η εγκατάσταση της Αλέγιας Παπαγεωργίου με τίτλο "repairing earth project" παρουσιάζει σε μικρή κλίμακα τοπία όμοια με τις επιφάνειες της γης που αλλάζουν συνεχώς καθώς εισάγεται νερό, απεικονίζοντας τη σχέση του ανθρώπου με το φυσικό περιβάλλον. Επιπλέον, η "La Poubelle" είναι ένα πλάσμα κατασκευασμένο από σκουπίδια, μια περιπλανώμενη γυναικεία φιγούρα σε ένα άγριο και αφιλόξενο σκηνικό από βράχους, μανιασμένα κύματα και πλαστικά απορρίμματα.
Η βραβευμένη φωτογράφος Lynne Buchanan έχει πραγματοποιήσει πολλές ατομικές εκθέσεις στη Φλόριντα και έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλές ομαδικές εκθέσεις στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Ο εκδοτικός οίκος George F. Η Lynne Buchanan κατέχει πτυχίο Bachelor και Master στην ιστορία της τέχνης, επίσης μεταπτυχιακό στα αγγλικά με επίκεντρο τη δημιουργική γραφή καθώς και στην διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων. Κατανοεί και αντιμετωπίζει τα προβλήματα των υδάτινων οδών του πλανήτη μας μέσα από πολλαπλές οπτικές γωνίες και τις μεταδίδει μέσω των φωτογραφιών και της γραφής. Έχει σπουδάσει κοντά σε αξιοσημείωτους φωτογράφους όπως οι Sam Abell, Clyde Butcher, Dewitt Jones και Jill Enfield, μεταξύ άλλων.
Η Αλέγια Παπαγεωργίου είναι σκηνογράφος και εικαστικός με έδρα τη Αθήνα. Εργάζεται μεταξύ Ολλανδίας, Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, Ελλάδας και άλλων χωρών της Ευρώπης. Έχει πτυχίο στην Αρχιτεκτονική Εσωτερικού Χώρου, Vakalo College of Arts & Design, University of Derby και Master στη σκηνογραφία, MA Scenography από το Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου. Αυτή την περίοδο πραγματοποιεί το δεύτερό της μεταπτυχιακό, MA ArtScience στο The Artscience Interfaculty στην Χάγη. Aσχολείται με τη σκηνογραφία και τα κοστούμια για performance, θέατρο, χορό καθώς και τη δημιουργία εικαστικών εγκαταστάσεων. Η εργασιακή της εμπειρία περιλαμβάνει, μεταξύ άλλων, την παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα του έργου του Edward Bond "Dea," The Secombre Theatre (Sutton UK), Εθνικό Θέατρο της Ελλάδας, Athens Biennale, Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών και Επιδαύρου, Comedie de Reims (Γαλλία), Arebyte gallery (Λονδίνο), Sonic Acts festival (Αμστερνταμ) καθώς και συμμετοχή σε εικαστικές εκθέσεις σε Ελλάδα και εξωτερικό.
