FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present a three-day long installation and performance piece, "Mother Puce: Chapter 1 – Rhymes for Fleas and Pests", a project by American artist Ella Goodine-Richardson that brings together a series of hand-made costumes, a cantastoria, as well as a performance element. "Mother Puce" (like Mother Goose) uses the metaphor of nursery rhymes to tell stories based on real events against a backdrop of fabric-constructed scenes and large textile props. Gaining inspiration through research in the history of dress and tastemaking, Goodine-Richardson uses textiles, performance, sound and video to re-examine and question the meanings conventionally assigned to everyday objects and sounds.
She will be performing her cantastoria "Mother Puce: Rhymes for Fleas and Pests" on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 2-4 October, at various times.
Wine and refreshments will be served each day and there will be opportunities to speak to the artist.
Ella Goodine-Richardson is from Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her Bachelor's of Art at Hampshire College in Aesthetic Philosophy and Costume. She has held public performances in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Washington D.C., and Amherst, Massachusetts. She has exhibited her work at L'Etna in Paris, France, The Big Car Gallery in Indianapolis, The Wonder Box in Farmville, North Carolina, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. She is currently working with People's Puppets of Occupy Wall Street in New York City on a cantastoria about climate justice and capitalism, as well as a puppet performance on health care and access in the United States.

Την πρώτη εβδομάδα του Οκτώβρη η FokiaNou Art Space φιλοξενεί την Αμερικανίδα εικαστικό και περφόρμερ Ella Goodine-Richardson. Το έργο της με τίτλο "Mother Puce: Chapter 1 – Rhymes for Fleas and Pests" αποτελείται από μια εγκατάσταση με χειροποίητα κοστούμια, υφάσματα καθώς και περφόρμανς. Η "Mother Puce" χρησιμοποιεί την μεταφορά των παιδικών τραγουδιών, όπως η Mother Goose - μητέρα χήνα, για να μιλήσει για ιστορίες βασισμένες σε αληθινά περιστατικά. Η εξιστόρηση πραγματοποιείται με φόντο την εγκατάσταση από υφάσματα και κοστούμια που λειτουργεί σαν σκηνικό. Η Ella Goodine-Richardson αντλεί έμπνευση για το έργο της, μέσα από την έρευνα που έχει διεξάγει για την ιστορία του κοστουμιού καθώς και την διαμόρφωση του εκάστοτε γούστου που επικρατεί. Το ύφασμα, η περφόρμανς, ο ήχος και το βίντεο αποτελούν το μέσο για να επανεξετάσει και να αμφισβητήσει έννοιες που συμβατικά έχουν αποδοθεί σε αντικείμενα και ήχους της καθημερινότητας.
Η περφόρμανς θα πραγματοποιείται κάθε μέρα, στο τριήμερο λειτουργίας της έκθεσης και ανά τακτά χρονικά διαστήματα από τις 4:00 το απόγευμα έως τις 9:00 το βράδυ.
Η Ella Goodine-Richardson κατάγεται από την Ινδιανάπολη της Ιντιάνα, στις ΗΠΑ. Έχει πτυχίο Καλών Τεχνών (στην Φιλοσοφία Αισθητικής και την Ενδυμασία), από το Hampshire College . Έχει πραγματοποιήσει περφόρμανς σε πόλεις όπως το Κολοράντο Σπρινγκς, η Ουάσιγκτον και το Άμερστ της Μασαχουσέτης. Έχει επίσης παρουσιάσει το έργο της στην L'Etna στο Παρίσι της Γαλλίας, στη γκαλερί The Big Car στην Ινδιανάπολη, στο The Wonder Box στο Farmville της Βόρειας Καρολίνας και στο Μουσείο Καλών Τεχνών της Βιρτζίνια στο Ρίτσμοντ.
