The island and The Iliotopos

The island, contoured and surrounded by water, is the land at its absolute and most symbolic form (topos); land of miracles or decline, paradise or exile in the human imaginary.
The island, as every topos, has many facets. Each one of them is registered in the mind of the viewer through memory elements. Only one cannot be registered: the back side, the hidden one, which remains in the realm of the imaginary.

Iliotopos is a word that does not exist, inspired by the Greek language and created through the union of two words: ήλιος and τόπος, similar in meaning and sound of another fascinating word: ηλιοτρόπιο, sunflower.
This way, Iliotopos would be the "space", "the place of light", a creation that intends to summarize in one term in a project where the central conceptual idea is that of the light.

Το νησί και Ο Iliotopos

Το νησί, περιγεγραμμένο και περιτριγυρισμένο από νερό, είναι ο τόπος στην απόλυτη και πιο συμβολική μορφή του — τόπος θαυμάτων ή παρακμής, παράδεισος ή εξορία για το ανθρώπινο φαντασιακό.
Το νησί, όπως κάθε τόπος, έχει πολλές όψεις. Κάθε μία καταγράφεται από τον καθένα με στοιχεία μνήμης. Μία μόνο δεν καταγράφεται: η πίσω πλευρά, που παραμένει κρυμμένη, και φανταστική.

Iliotopos είναι ένας ανύπαρκτος όρος, εμπνευσμένος από την ελληνική γλώσσα και βγαλμένος απ’ την ένωση δύο λέξεων: ήλιος και τόπος, παρόμοιος σε ήχο και σημασία με μια άλλη υπέροχη λέξη: ηλιοτρόπιο.
Έτσι, ο Iliotopos θα μπορούσε να είναι ο «χώρος», «ο τόπος του φωτός», μια επινόηση που φιλοδοξεί να συνοψίσει σ’ έναν και μόνο όρο την κεντρική ιδέα ενός σχεδίου, όπου το φως είναι το πρωταρχικό εννοιολογικό στοιχείο.

Iliotopos es un término inexistente, inspirado en la lengua griega y tomado de la unión de dos palabras: ήλιος y τόπος, similar en sonido y significado a otra palabra fascinante: ηλιοτρόπιο, el girasol.
Así, Iliotopos sería el "espacio", "el lugar de la luz", una invención que pretende resumir en un solo término la idea central de un proyecto donde la luz es un elemento conceptual principal.
