FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present Cryptids, a solo show of the work of Karl Heinz Jeron: a sculpture exhibition in concrete that incorporates electronics, plastic plants, sound and video. Cryptozoology is the study of animals that are rumored to exist. Such creatures are called "cryptids." Some, like the gorilla, giant squid and okapi, are no longer hearsay and legend but real creatures recognized by science. Others, like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster, continue to tempt the hopeful and the adventurous with the possibility of their existence. Jeron's cryptids are enactments of anti-anthropocentrism, placing importance on the symbiosis of humans, animals, plants and things. The work refers to the ecological relationships of the species without separation of the biological and the social in the context of "natureculture" thinking (Donna Haraway). It shows creatures which do not exist, or rather, which nobody has seen before, and confuses the authentic with the fake.
Karl Heinz Jeron was born in Memmingen, Germany in 1962. He lives and works in Athens since 2018. His art deals with every day culture, media perception and information processing. He creates experiences rather than objects. Jeron's works span from the singing and dancing robot Sim Gishel, to compositions for electrified rotten vegetables and audio tour guides in onshore wind farms. Recent exhibitions, events and collaborations include Athens Digital Arts Festival, ZKM Karlsruhe, Ars Electronica Linz, Documenta X, ICA London, Walker Art Museum Minneapolis, Berlinische Galerie Berlin and the Museum of Modern Art San Francisco.

Cryptids

Ο χώρος σύγχρονης τέχνης FokiaNou Art Space φιλοξενεί την ατομική έκθεση του Γερμανού εικαστικού Karl Heinz Jeron, με τίτλο Cryptids. Παρουσιάζονται γλυπτά φτιαγμένα από σκυρόδεμα, που ενσωματώνουν ηλεκτρονικά στοιχεία και πλαστικά φυτά συνδυαζόμενα με ήχο και βίντεο. Κρυπτοζωολογία ονομάζεται η μελέτη των ζώων που φημολογείται πώς υπάρχουν. Αυτά τα πλάσματα ονομάζονται κρυπτίδια όπως είναι άλλωστε ο τίτλος της έκθεσης.
Ορισμένα, όπως ο γορίλας και το γιγαντιαίο καλαμάρι δεν αποτελούν πλέον κάποιον θρύλο, αλλά πραγματικά πλάσματα αναγνωρισμένα από την επίσημη επιστήμη. Άλλα, όπως ο Μεγαλοπόδαρος και το τέρας του Loch Ness, συνεχίζουν να δελεάζουν όσους ελπίζουν στην κατάρριψη ενός ακόμα μύθου, μέσα από την απόδειξη της ύπαρξής τους. Παίζοντας με την αντίληψη για το ψεύτικο και το αυθεντικό, ο Jeron δημιουργεί πλάσματα που δεν υπάρχουν και που κανείς δεν έχει δει πριν. Τα κρυπτίδιά του μπορούν να θεωρηθούν σαν απτές πράξεις ενός αντι-ανθρωποκεντρισμού, δίνοντας περισσότερη έμφαση στη συμβίωση των ανθρώπων, των ζώων, των φυτών και των πραγμάτων.
Ο Karl Heinz Jeron γεννήθηκε στο Memmingen της Γερμανίας το 1962. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα από το 2018. Δημιουργεί εμπειρίες και όχι αντικείμενα. Τα έργα του Jeron εκτείνονται από την κατασκευή του ρομπότ τραγουδιού και χορού Sim Gishel, σε συνθέσεις για ηλεκτροφόρα σάπια λαχανικά και συσκευές ακουστικής ξενάγησης σε αιολικά πάρκα. Οι πρόσφατες εκθέσεις του περιλαμβάνουν το Φεστιβάλ Ψηφιακών Τεχνών της Αθήνας, το ZKM Karlsruhe, το Ars Electronica Linz, τη Documenta X, το ICA του Λονδίνου, το Walker Art Museum Minneapolis, το Berlinische Galerie Berlin και το Μουσείο Μοντέρνας Τέχνης του Σαν Φρανσίσκο.
