A Picture Of Us
Fo Kia Nou 24/7 is pleased to present "A Picture of Us", an exhibition of paintings by Sarah Ettlinger and an installation by Loula Levedi.
In a series of oil paintings made in 2002- 2008, Sarah Ettlinger explores the complex emotional relationship between child and parent. Using photographs taken by the artist of her children, Ettlinger shifts and changes the scale and perspective in her painting to create a world that both parallels the sense of wonder and innocence of the child, and at the same time suggests ways that we can make sense of the human image. The paintings focus on the face, reducing the body and limbs to a space behind the picture plane, creating a dreamlike spatial quality.
Loula Levedi has developed a playful and experimental photographic approach based on the unconscious guidance. A kind of simulation of the creative process, giving form and meaning to the conjunctive mood of the 'mind' and 'latent image', that exists at the time of shooting. This practice suggests a 'pop-up' ritual, bringing to the surface, images that the thought ruminates. Shapes and figures meet without ever having rationalized / direct link between them, providing visual puns which mainly lie in the ability / disposition of the viewer. A story is formed, at her installation "Rebeated" for the exhibition, a story based on the coexistence of ambiguous complexes of symbols used in repetition. This combination of symbols provides dreamlike landscapes where the human figure or psyche emerges figuratively, passing through stages producing a hybridization of feeling.
Sarah Ettlinger is a British artist living and working in Athens, Greece since 1991. She studied at Middlesex University, London and obtained a first class B.A Honors Degree at Liverpool School of Art and Design. She has exhibited in Greece, France, Ecuador and England and has organized and curated a number of collaborative artistic events in Athens.

Loula Levedi lives and works in Athens as a freelance photographer/visual artist/designer. She was born in Athens, Greece, where she studied photography. In 2005 she graduated from the Westminster University in London with M.A. in Art and Media Practice and in 2014 graduated from the Hellenic Open University, Patras, Greece with Master in Graphic Arts & Creative Multimedia. She has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece, Italy, England and New Zealand.

Ο χώρος σύγχρονης τέχνης Fo Kia Nou 24/7 παρουσιάζει την έκθεση "A Picture Of Us" των Sarah Ettlinger και Λούλας Λεβέντη.
Σε μια σειρά από ελαιογραφίες που δημιούργησε από το 2002 έως το 2008, η Sarah Ettlinger εξερευνά την πολύπλοκη, συναισθηματικά σχέση μεταξύ παιδιών και γονέων. Χρησιμοποιώντας φωτογραφίες που ελήφθησαν από τα παιδιά της, η Ettlinger μετατοπίζει και αλλάζει την κλίμακα και την προοπτική στη ζωγραφική των έργων της για να δημιουργήσει ένα κόσμο που διερευνά την αίσθηση της κατάπληξης και της αθωότητας της παιδικής ηλικίας ενώ προτείνει καινούργιους τρόπους ανάγνωσης της ανθρώπινης εικόνας. Οι πίνακες της επικεντρώνονται στο παιδικό πρόσωπο, μειώνοντας την υπόσταση του σώματος και των άκρων έτσι που αυτά χάνονται σε ένα ονειρικό χώρο που ξεδιπλώνεται πίσω από την δεσπόζουσα εικόνα του προσώπου.
Μέσα από μια εικαστική προσέγγιση που οικειοποιείται τις δυνατότητες της φωτογραφικής μηχανής του κινητού τηλεφώνου η Λούλα Λεβέντη παράγει τις συνθήκες για δημιουργικά ατυχήματα-ευτυχήματα. Το περιεχόμενο των εικόνων , προκύπτει και οικοδομείται με βάση την ασυνείδητη καθοδήγηση. Φόρμες, φιγούρες και σύμβολα συναντιούνται μεταξύ τους παρέχοντας οπτικά λογοπαίγνια αναλόγα με την δυνατότητα και διάθεση πρόσληψης τους από τον θεατή. Η σειρά "Rebeated" είναι μια απόπειρα κατασκευής ενός ιδιαίτερου φωτογραφικού πλέγματος που αφηγείται μια ιστορία βασισμένη στην συνύπαρξη συμβόλων που χρησιμοποιούνται σε επανάληψη,δημιουργώντας ονειρικά τοπία, στα οποία κινείται συμβολικά ο ψυχισμός της ανθρώπινης φιγούρας διαμορφώνοντας ένα ιδιαίτερο είδος χωροχρόνου .
H Sarah Ettlinger που κατάγεται από την Μεγάλη Βρετανία, ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα από το 1991. Σπούδασε στο Middlesex University στο Λονδίνο και απέκτησε το πτυχίο της Β.Α στο Liverpool School of Art and Design. Έχει εκθέσει στην Ελλάδα, τη Γαλλία, τον Ισημερινό, την Αγγλία και έχει οργανώσει και επιμεληθεί σειρά καλλιτεχνικών εκδηλώσεων στην Αθήνα.

H Λούλα Λεβέντη ζει κ εργάζεται στην Αθήνα ως ελεύθερος επαγγελματίας φωτογράφος, σχεδιάστρια και εικαστικός. Σπούδασε φωτογραφία στο Τ.Ε.Ι Αθήνας και συνέχισε στο Λονδίνο, M.Α. Art and Media Practice στο University of Westminster και στο Ελληνικό Ανοιχτό Πανεπιστήμιο, M.A. Graphic Arts & Multimedia. Εχει λάβει μέρος σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα, Ιταλία και Αγγλία και Νέα Ζηλανδία.
